The ____ Bridge

Sunday, November 22, 2009

I originally posted this blog post in May of 2009. The Mets finally named the bridge in the month of November. Why do I bring it up now? I refer you to the 2nd comment on the bottom of this post.

It needs a name.

Many of the fans who have been out to Citi Field have walked on it; the Nameless Bridge out in center field. It's a beautiful piece in a beautiful ball park. The only downside it has is that it makes for awkward conversation with an Usher.

"Uh...Usher...How do I get to the Shake Shack out in Center?"

"You can call me, Ush. Just take that bridge over on your right, cross it over and go 'bout 20 yards and you'll be sippin your way to a brain freeze in no time."

"Great, thanks! Is there a name for the bridge so I'll know to look out for a sign?"

"No, it's just 'bridge'."

"So...it's not named after anyone in specific?"

"Well, there was a Mike Bridge who was casted to be in the original 'Flinstones - Real Life Movie' but it's got nothing to do with him. Nothing at all."

"Er, okay, thanks, Ush. Over the ____, I go."

True story. It actually happens every day out in Citi. Until now.

We NEED you to come up with a name for it (and then we shall decide on the winner). Although the Mets are asking the "season ticket holders" to send in their favorite names for the bridge (and they will then choose which one they like best), we, the poor fans who have to buy - sob - smaller packages to get into the games will stick to the best name chosen HERE, on this website.

So get at it, folks, start usin that noggin, and let's bridge that nameless gap out in deep center field.

I heard people wanted Piazza's Path but that is awful. I don't think it should be named after a player (current or past) and if it is named after a person then it should have the "Shea" title in there.

Amazin Alley? (but it aint an alley...ok ok)...

The Mets finally have an opportunity to make all their fans happy and bring some Shea into Citi.

This is a no brainer; this bridge must have something to do with Shea!! It’s our last hope to have a tie with past!!

Another word for bridge is connection..... How about Shea connection?
NO, that sux!

Okay how about we sell the naming rights, like we did with Citi, and buy some more players??!!

DEFINITALLY NO NAMING AFTER PLAYERS REGADLESS WHIO YOU ARE, BECAUSE WHEN IT GETS REVEALED THAT THEY WERE ON ROIDS, ITS GOING TO BE A DISSASTER!!

Lol, sell the naming rites. That's not a bad idea. I would not step foot on that bridge though if it was deemed the "Kellogs Crossing". I promise.

LET’S JUST HOPE THIS BRIDGE WHATEVER THE NAME IS, IS NOT SUSPECTABLE TO COLLAPSING!!!!

Good One, Wario!

That would definitely go hand in hand with the past few seasons. But we are in a new park, a new era.

How about "The City Link"?

City with a "Y"... This way even after 20 years when the stadium changes its name... CitY Link will forever be stable.

eh

How about "The Bridge Over Troubled Water"?!

How bout the " Anything but Jackie Robinson # 42 Bridge"

You all realize that it's just all trick to be able to start collecting a toll.

Anyways my suggestion is the "Throw the Philly fan over the bridge Bridge"

L-O-L. And I thought I stopped paying once I got into the stadium! Skeptic AL's last suggestion is not bad... Stick in the Marlins fan as well and then we're talking!

GET A GRIP

I'm so done with this Dodgers thing. Do they know that they've made most Mets fans resent Brooklyn and its old team?

One more Brooklynite move and forget the name, let's just hang Minaya off it.

haraz31 said...

Yeah the ebbets walk sounds like a wilpon call

Skeptic Al said...

Eli...thats because you know nothing about the Brooklyn Dodgers. Readup a bit, talk to some of the elders on Flatbush Ave, watch some films and you'll be talking Dodger talk too.

Theres nothing wrong with remembering a time when baseball was real!

If you were Eli from Queens you'd have no bite. As it is.....

Al....I thought you said you were a bit busy?

Skeptic Al said...

Just Wondering...I know but when I'm needed to keep things real, and for my ever insightful commentary - busy goes out the window. I am a man of priorities.

Eli From Brooklyn said...

Haraz, lol, I'd blow a fit.

Al, so we have to adhere to the Giant's past and the Dodger's past? Why them? Let's also remember the Dodgers previos names such as, The Brooklyn Hartfords, who played its home games at Union Grounds in 1877 before disbanding. They were also the Brooklyn Superbas during the late 1890s and early 1900. Let's do it all! C'mon!

In other words, geez. Live in Today!

Skeptic Al said...

Eli...you dont have to do anything. But your losing out by not getting a sense of the games best days.
Baseball died a long time ago. What your watching, following, and writing about is a bunch of spoiled drugged up mercenaries!

wario said...

How about Negro league bridge?
Let us commemorate those wonderful years of wholesomeness baseball!!
Al, weren’t those the days?
