The Hell-Man Effect

.
On December 11th, 2008, Mets' fans were able to breathe a sigh of relief.

Why? Because they lost their "relief".

Are you following? Let me explain. If you recall on that day, Jeremy Reed was traded by the Mariners with J.J. Putz and Sean Green to the Mets for Aaron Heilman, Endy Chavez, Jason Vargas, and Mike Carp.

Heilman was gone. "Relief" for REAL-ief.

From that day forward, 4 months ago, we were able to sleep better at night knowing that Heilman could never hurt us again. It was as if both sides of the pillow were the 'cold side', every pair of pajamas were our lucky ones and the best of all, it seemed as if each night we deposited our bodies into awaiting fresh linen.

That is until now.

After being traded to the Mariners, he was then sent to the Cubs. (Going off on a slight tangent - it's pretty funny how the Mariners got rid of him before he even threw a pitch for them. They must have found a defect or blemish and discarded him. I would've loved to see the feedback the Mets received after the Mariners realized that they had been duped. Too bad they didn't trade him on Ebay).

"But how did Heilman hurt the Mets now?" you ask.

By letting the Marlins win; causing their first place lead to increase to 4 1/2 games over the the 4th place New York Mets.

He gave up six runs in the top of the 10th inning proving to us that the "butterfly effect" works with overpaid, under-achieving, starter-desiring, relievers.

Feel the hurricane, New York.

The name "Heilman" makes me shiver every time I hear it. Could Green be our new Heilman? I wonder.

Great post.

Hey Haraz you jinxed your favorite player yesterday!!!

Still miss him???

Eli you should make a follow Hielman link in the corner so we can feel better about ourselves each day he takes the mound!! Us met fans can use a little pick me up right now, and where better than to get if from someone who has caused us so much grief over the years!

I agree, Wario.

We'll try to come up with a "Watch Heilman" link. Hopefully, only with negative things to show.
