"Watch out, Fernando Nieve" writes the Post, "Jon Niese threw a five-hit complete game shutout for AAA Buffalo tonight."
According to Bart Hubbach, Niese was the first Buffalo pitcher to toss a 9 inning complete game shutout since 2004. In his past six starts - he's gone 4-1 with 1.04 ERA, has 39 strikeouts and has issued 10 walks.
That's not the only good news out of Buffalo. According the Bisons' website, "Buffalo Bisons RHP Nelson Figueroa has been selected to the league's All-Star Team. He will be joined by Bisons manager Ken Oberkfell, who was named an All-Star coach last month."
Figueroa, age 35, is the Mets hottest prospect right now and Omar Minaya is testing the waters. Messages were left with the Indians' front office on a head-to-head trade for Cliff Lee but the calls have yet to be returned. The same has been done with the Rays and Evan Longoria, the Phillies and Chase Utley and the Nationals with Stephen Strassburg.
We will keep you updated on this ever exciting (and unfortunately, sad ending) story.
